History

    Dr. Yelena Minyonok - philologist, folklorist, Principle Investigator of the project “Russian Folklore Expedition”. Graduated from the Philological Department of the Moscow State University; M.A. degree awarded (Moscow, 1988). Postgraduate studies at the Institute of World Literature (Russian Academy of Sciences, 1988 - 1991), Ph.D. in Folklore (Moscow, 1998).

Sergey Minyonok - theater director, documentary films director, Principle Investigator of the project “Russian Folklore Expedition”. Graduated from the Theater Directing Department of the State Eastern-Siberian Institute of Culture; M.A. degree awarded (Ulan-Uhde, 1985). Graduated from High Courses of Directors and Scenarists; M.A. degree awarded (Moscow, 1998). Postgraduate studies at the Institute of World Literature (Russian Academy of Sciences, 1996-1998), Ph.D. candidate in Video Anthropology.

Since 1989 Yelena Minyonok and Sergei Minyonok have been participating in numerous field studies in different regions of Russia, and at the same time they have been developing the methods of documentary video recording of folk materials. They are the authors of more than 30 articles on the topic of Russian folklore traditions.

1989

Expedition of the Institute                                      

Itinerary: Kaluzhskaya province, Ludinovskii region, Manino, Pogost, Usokhi, Buda villages.

Results: 267 audio records of folk songs, 68 audio records of mythological stories, 15 descriptions of rituals, etc.

The expedition was financed through personal resources of Yelena and Sergei Minyonok.

1990 (winter)

Expedition of the Institute of World Literature (Russian Academy of Sciences) and the Pedagogical Institute of Orekhovo-Zuevo

Itinerary: Kaluzhskaya province, Ludinovskii region, Manino, Kretovka, Voilovo.

Results: 200 audio records of folk songs, 117 audio records of mythological stories, 12 descriptions of rituals, etc.

The expedition was financed through personal resources of Yelena and Sergei Minyonok.

1990 (summer)

Expedition of the Institute of World Literature (Russian Academy of Sciences)

Itinerary: Kaluzhskaya province, Ludinovskii region, Voilovo, Verbezhichi, Savino villages.

Results: 250 audio records of folk songs, 189 audio records of mythological stories, 21 descriptions of rituals, etc.

Itinerary: Kaluzhskaia province, Ludinovskii region, Bukan’, Andreevy-Paliki, Manino, Pogost.

Expedition of the Institute of World Literature (Russian Academy of Sciences)

Itinerary: Kaluzhskaia province, Ludinovskii region, Bukan, Chornyi Potok.

Results: 175 audio records of folk songs, 235 audio records of mythological stories, 19 audio records of rituals, etc.
