The American Friends of Russian Folklore is a non-profit charitable organization aims to maintain the cultural understanding between the United States and Russia via collecting, preserving, studying, investigating and distributing the materials of alive Russian folklore traditions. We see our goal to overwork the negative historical experience between our countries during the time of cold war. We believe that American and Russian peoples should know each other better and the best way to do it is to give people the chance to travel and to meet face to face. We believe that sophisticated way to learn about the Russian culture is to involve American and Russian people in the scientific, educational and cultural projects about Russian Folklore. To this end, AFRF supports a wide range of projects: field research, recordings, filmmaking, archiving, and analysis of Russian folklore and oral histories. We also support educational and cultural presentations at universities, conferences, and festivals.
